Should You Submit Your Blog to Directories
Here's a common question: "should I submit my blog to directories".
Directories are remnants of yesterdays internet. They used to be widely used before search engines. But these days, why browse through a directory when you can just skip straight to a search engine and find exactly what you need.
But directories provide another valuable commodity - backlinks. However, even these backlinks a questionable and the SEO experts are still unsure as to whether these actually help your Pagerank or not.
So will submitting your blog to a directory build PR or traffic - the answer is probably not. You may gain some link love (pr) and you may see the odd visitor or two. But don;t rely on directories as a source of traffic or marketing.

Find Your Websites Worth
CyberWyre has a neat tool that will tell you how much your site is worth.
Simply input your sites/blogs URL and it will spit out a value. Its good for general adsense sites and blogs but not good for web apps. It was many thousands off the real value of one of my apps.
What is also neat about this tool is it will give you some monetisation ideas and explain how much you could earn in a month if you used that option.

Track Blog Visitors in Realtime
Wouldn't it be cool to see exactly how many visitors are currently viewing your blog, what they're reading and where they came from - all live and in realtime.
Thanks to the wonderful stats application Clicky, its now easier that ever to track your blog visitors in realtime.
Unlike Google Analytics, which is updated daily, Clicky provides a liver overview of your website. If you're interested in marketing and seeing how visitors come to your site - this is essential.
Price wise the news is also good as Clicky is free although I di recommend trying the pro versions as they unlock so pretty incredible features like Goals and Campaigns which are really useful for affiliate marketing.

Tip - Post Regularly
I know - im guilty of not following my own advice on this blog. However, I did notice on another blog that posting 3 times a week at regular intervals has increased subscriptions.
Posting Frequency
It doesn't really matter how many times you post per week. Some blogs do extremely well posting only weekly. However, leaving long irregular gaps inbetween posts will cause traffic to drastically drop.
Setup a Posting Calendar
I like to create a weekly calendar. For example - Monday = Review. Tuesday = Video. etc. This will help keep you on track.

GetClicky offers the best stats
Although Google Analytics is a strong and usually the first choice of most bloggers and webmasters - I have recently been using GetClicky.com
These guys have been around for awhile a offer a really professional and very slick analytics package. I won't do a review here (link below for the full story) but what I will say is - GetClicky is realtime! Unlike Google Analytics, GetClicky updates in realtime so you can literraly see visits as they happen.

5 Reasons To Choose Blogger over Wordpress
I write for a number of blogs - most of them are self hosted and use the Wordpress platform. I also generally recommend using Wordpress to others, but today I wanted to write this post to explain a bit about why I chose blogger for this blog.
Here are 5 reasons to choose Blogger over a self hosted Wordpress
I still love Wordpress (its rated as my number 1 online app) - and I still use it everyday for idezy and Tweetgain but its always a good idea to look at all the options available. Remember choose the right software not just based on the type of blogger you are - but the type of content you are creating.
Here are 5 reasons to choose Blogger over a self hosted Wordpress
- No Distractions - Wordpress has thousnads of plugins which turn it from a mere blogging platform into a full blown CMS. Sure this is great for a vareity of blogs, but if all you want to do is churn out content, blogger eliminates these "distractions" by offering no plugins.
- Reliability - I host my Wordpress blogs on whats meant to be a fail-sage grid system. But even this expensive hosting goes down for matience. Blogger on the other hand rarely goes down (can you remember when you couldn't access your Blogger blog)
- Zero Learning Curve - Sure Wordpress is super simple, but its still got a lot of options. The more options a product has, the more there is to find out about - ie learn!
- Easy to Monetize - The newish Google Adsense integration is easy and built in. You can quickly switch on ads that match your blogs design.
- Security - This ones a biggy. See Wordpress can at times contain security flaws. Sure Wordpress puts out regular security fixes for these issues, but if you're lazy like me, you can end up getting burned.

Working with Squidoo
I am new to Squidoo - and I seemed to miss the boat.
But better late than never. So I decided to create a lens or two and see how things go. Being new to Squidoo I don't really know all the tips and tricks. What I do know is that if you create a lens on something you are passionate about, it makes the entire process all the more easier.
Here are some of my lenses. Take a look and tell me what you think of them.
As you can see, the topics I covered are all related and based on things I work on everyday. Over the coming weeks I will be working on creating a few more lenses and working on interlinking and promoting them.

Earnings Update
Here is an update of my earnings so far across my blogs and other sites. To be honest I havent concentrated too heavily on monetization so far but will look to do so in the coming months.
Text Link Sales - $30.00
Ad Sales - $8.00
Helium - $0.60
MyLot - $2.61
Directory Link Sales - $6.00
Total: $47.21
This past month I have put a lot of work into Helium - a site which pays you to write articles. Hopefully this work will start to pay off over the coming months.
I have pretty much given up on MyLot. Although it used to do alright, I can no longer justify the time it takes to earn what I want from that site. I think I will just leave it and see how my referral earnings go.
The bulk of the earnings came from link and ad sales - something which I hop to continue.

How to Make Money Blogging
There are many ways to make money blogging. Some are easier than others but one thing is certain - making money blogging isn't instant and it can be hard work. The good news is that plenty of people are making good cash with blogs.
Adsense
Adding adsense to your blog is very easy. If you use blogger, than its simply a matter of linking your adsense account. If you use Wordpress than there are plenty of plugins available to automatically insert ads into your blog.
Paid Posts
Paid posting has died off a bit recently but opportunities are still available. Try using PayPerPost or SocialSpark. Its simply a matter of having a blog with a 20+ posts and some traffic. You don't need a huge amount of visitors coming to your blog, but the more you have the more you earn per post.
Text Links
You can sell text links on your blog if you have a Pagerank greater than 0 or a decent amount of traffic. You could go with a company like TextLinkAds although they will take a cut of your profits. Instead try selling links directly on your blog or through a forum such as The Digital Point
